About Ethnicity, Identity and Nationalism
The course ‘Ethnicity, Identity and Nationalism’ intends to give full-fledged information regarding the major and interrelated intricacies of human being that includes; ethnicity, identity, race and nationalism. These interrelated concepts are imbedded their root on the society’s everyday life and activities. On the other hand, Social Anthropology as a holistic discourse is expected to treat the above concepts. The course also explores the relationships between identity, ethnicity and nationalism; discusses globalization and multiculturalism; evaluates competing discourses of identity and ethnicity; examines primordial and instrumental approaches in the study of ethnicity and identity; relates competing discourses and approaches of ethnicity and identity to Ethiopia's socio-political and cultural realities; and investigates the roles of ethnicity, identity and nationalism in African politics.
