About Sociology of Development
This module encompasses two courses: Sociology of Development and Contemporary Social Issues: Food Security, Poverty and Inequality. Generally the module introduce students to basic themes, concepts and major theoretical perspectives of development; an overview of development and underdevelopment in global, historical and comparative perspective; critical examination of the relationship between culture and development and will also give emphasis to major recent themes and debates in the field. Furthermore, the module emphasises on the development project which sought to universalize the Euro-American understanding of modernity, characterized as an industrial civilization, impacted (positively or negatively) the state of poverty and food security, and inequality in the developing world, the various issues concerning food security and the strategies charted out at various levels to address the problem of food security.
