About Rural Sociology and Development


I. Module Description This module comprises of Rural Sociology and Development, and Urban Sociology courses. The module focuses on both theoretical and practical issues related to rural areas, particularly in the context of developing countries. Besides dealing with specific issues in the sub-disciplines of rural and urban sociology, it attempts to link these sub-disciplines by focusing on rural-urban relations and divisions. The urban sociology section of the module introduces students to the field of urban sociology. It dwells on the process of urbanization (its base, origin, and development), characteristics of urban centers and patterns of the city, theories of urbanism, as well as urban pathology and therapy.
