Concepts and dominant features of folklore; History of Folklorstics forms of Course Description folklore (material culture, social folk custom, performing folk arts, and Oral literature); functions of folklore; major genres of oral literature (oral narrative, oral poetry, short forms); survey of the study of folklore in Ethiopia; Purpose of field work; methods and approaches of collecting, classifying and analyzing oral literature.
