About : Survey of Americas History, 1800-1945
This course surveys in order those defining moments of American history (both Anglo America and Latin America, or the New World, as both of them are identified with) for about two centuries. It will focus on some of the most important revolutionary and episodic events of American history. The course will allows students to grasp the main historical developments that have shaped the political, economic social and cultural set up of the American continent during the period under discussion. To this end, two important events have received a special attention since they provided a little more different dimension to the political and economic structures of the continent. These two events were colonialism and neocolonialism. The Americas in the 19th century were continents in the throes of dramatic change from a predominately traditional agrarian society to a modern industrial society. This course will present a thematic overview of the Americas History from the early 19th century to WWII, exploring the period through the lens of race, gender, class, and ethnicity.
