About News Writing and Reporting for Print
This course is intended to introduce students with the basic concepts and techniques of news writing and reporting. The course divided into three parts. The first part deals with the definitions of news story, types of news story, elements of news story and components of news story. The second part concerns with the news gathering process that includes the reporter, the reporter’s duties, the reporter’s skills, the reporter’s desired qualities; and finding stories, basic reporting, and organizing ideas. And the last part deals with the process of writing news story which includes beginning the story, creating the lead, structuring the story, the ingredients of good writing, style and the stylebook, editorial and public opinion writing and editorial policy.
