In this chapter a procedure called moment distribution is applied to solve the simultaneous equations of slope deflection method by successive approximation. This iterative procedure is preferable over slope deflection method for structures with many members.

In this chapter slope deflection method which is one of the classical formulations of the displacement group of methods is applied to determine joint displacements of indterminate structures. In this method, the moments at the ends of a memeber are expressed in terms of the displacements of these ends. The method takes in to account only the bending deformations of structures, and consequently, is used to analyze indeterminate structures, made up of moment resisting memebers such as continuous beams and rigid-jointed frames.
